1. Chain cleaning

1.1 Why the chain should be clean

Friction is constantly generated between the chain and the sprocket during driving, as well as between the chain links. This loosens fine metal abrasion and inevitably dirties the chain. Together with the residues of chain lubricants, sand, road dirt, etc., a stubborn coating forms on the chain and sprocket. This coating prevents the active ingredients of a chain spray from creeping deep between the chain links – lubrication becomes impossible. 
Lubrication becomes increasingly ineffective if you never clean the chain.
So for it to “run” optimally, it is not enough to lubricate the chain from time to time. A chain is only properly maintained if it is thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis.

1.2 What to use to keep the chain clean

Thanks to its special gel formulation, S100 Chain Cleaner combines optimal creeping ability with perfect adhesion. This allows the cleaning power to take full effect by absorbing stubborn dirt – naturally, without long scrubbing. 
Thanks to its gel formula and contact time, the cleaner is also very economical.

1.3 Correct application

• Shake the can well so that the active ingredients in the can mix optimally
• Spray on the chain and leave to act for 10-15 minutes
• For stubborn dirt, support the cleaning with a chain brush.
• Thoroughly rinse the chain with a strong jet of water

2. Protecting the chain from wear

Strong forces act on a motorbike chain. The constant friction that occurs between chain and sprocket, but also between the individual chain links, is minimised by lubrication with chain sprays. However, a chain spray only does this if it is applied regularly and sufficiently and has a strong adhesion to the surface. Insufficient lubrication quickly leads to signs of wear such as elongation of the chain or visible wear marks on the sprocket and chain wheel.
It is worthwhile to avoid this. Because a regularly maintained chain set has a much higher mileage and does not need to be replaced prematurely. A well-maintained chain contributes to safety when riding a motorbike.

3. Tips for chain care

• Cleaning interval: A thorough chain cleaning should be carried out after every third lubrication. 
• Only clean the chain in suitable places with an oil separator!
• Lubrication interval: In perfect conditions (no riding in the rain) we recommend lubricating the chain at least every 700km. Under unfavourable conditions (continuous rain, winter use on salty roads, etc.), chain lubrication may be necessary much earlier.
• Always spray the chain spray on the INSIDE of the clean, dry chain! This way the chain grease is ideally distributed in the chain by the rotating movement.
• Do not apply too much chain spray! One complete rotation of the chain is sufficient. The white colouring of the chain spray lets you see where the chain spray has already been applied. 
• Chain grease must not get onto the tyre treads! (Danger of slipping!) For this purpose, we recommend using S100 Sauber Sepp (chain splash protection).
• Flashing off: Allow the chain spray to flash off for at least one hour before driving. This allows the solvents to evaporate and the chain spray to develop its optimum effect.
